BEER NAME: Valve

BEER STYLE: IPA

BREWERY: Riot

REGION: Cape Town, Western Cape

ABV: 5.9%

INGREDIENTS: Malted barley, hops, yeast and water

BREWER’S NOTES: We turned the hops way up on this one, striking a balance between malt and bold hoppy bitterness. Flavour: Guava and lychee fruit followed by a grapefruit bitterness

AWARDS: SANBT 2017 Gold

TASTING NOTES:

  • APPEARANCE: Hazy deep gold / Brass in colour with a dense lingering white head and some lacing present.
  • AROMA: Tropical & citrus fruits, grapefruit comes through as the lead note
  • FLAVOUR: BAM! A bitter slap up front! Digging down there are some complex jabs of fruitiness with an uppercut of grapefruit and a bold bitterness carrying through to the next sip
  • MOUTHFEEL: Medium bodied and smooth, with a healthy dose of carbonation and tingles on the tongue from the bitter hop bomb.
  • OVERALL: This hop forward IPA is full of bold refreshing grapefruit and lingering bitterness, its certainly not for the faint hearted. Those up for a taste adventure should look no further.
  • PAIR WITH: basil, black pepper, caramel, citrus, mint, rosemary, thyme, tropical fruit, vanilla

BREW REVIEW RATING: 8.5 /10
